About this recipe

Whether you're a fan of Korean food looking to recreate it at home or simply in need of a quick and delicious meal, this Korean rice and chicken bowl is the perfect solution. It’s incredibly easy to make, full of flavor, and takes minimal time. I’m a huge fan of Korean-inspired dishes, and in this recipe, we use a gochujang sauce that adds a deep, savory kick. This sauce elevates simple chicken and rice, transforming it from an ordinary meal to something truly special.

One of the best things about this recipe is how simple it is. You don't need any fancy equipment or ingredients. There’s no need to deep fry the chicken either, which keeps the recipe healthier and less messy. I prefer to cook the chicken fillets in an air fryer to get that irresistible crispy texture, but an oven works just as well if you don’t have one!

This recipe is also adjustable to whatever you prefer. If you love spicy food, you can easily dial up the heat, or keep it mild if you prefer just a hint of spice. The combination of crispy, spicy chicken with warm, fluffy rice is truly comforting and satisfying. To add hint of freshness, I like to serve it with sliced cucumber and grated carrot, which balances the bold flavors with a refreshing crunch.

So why not give this easy and delicious Korean chicken bowl a try, and you’ll have a flavorful meal in no time!

Gochujang Sauce

So we've been speaking a lot about gochujang sauce, but what actually is it? Gochujang sauce is a savory, sweet, and spicy Korean condiment made primarily from gochujang, a fermented red chili paste. Gochujang itself is a key ingredient in Korean cooking and is known for its complex flavors. The gochujang sauce is a combination of gochujang as well as other ingredients to add further depth such as:

  • Soy sauce for saltiness
  • Sesame oil for a nutty, rich flavor
  • Honey to add sweetness
  • Garlic for extra depth and a hint of sharpness
  • Vinegar for acidity and balance
  • It is the perfect balance of heat, sweetness, and depth making gochujang sauce a versatile and popular component in many Korean dishes.

Where can I find gochujang paste?

In the UK, you can buy it in the oriental section in most supermarkets.
