Easily recreated at home, this versatile sauce is my fave at Nandos. By substituting traditional yogurt with vegan yogurt, it becomes a delightful option for vegans, ensuring all can enjoy, While any chili can be used, opting for African chilies provides an authentic touch.
Stored in the refrigerator, Nando's Lemon and Herb Sauce retains its freshness for up to two weeks, allowing for ample enjoyment over multiple meals. Whether used as a marinade to impart a burst of flavor to chicken or served on the side as a dipping sauce, its versatility knows no bounds. The tangy notes of lemon enliven the palate, while the herbal undertones add depth to every bite.
African Bird Chillis
African Bird's Eye Chilli, also known as Peri-Peri or Piri-Piri, is a small yet potent chili pepper renowned for its fiery heat and distinctively fruity flavor profile. Originating from Southern Africa, particularly Mozambique and Malawi, this chili variety packs a punch, ranking high on the Scoville scale with its intense spiciness. Its vibrant red color and narrow shape give it an iconic appearance, while its complex flavor adds depth to dishes, ranging from a subtle heat to a blazing inferno. Widely used in African cuisine, especially in peri-peri sauces, marinades, and spice blends, the African Bird's Eye Chilli is a cornerstone of culinary tradition, imparting not only heat but also a unique zest that elevates dishes to new heights.
White Wine Vinegar
The inclusion of white wine vinegar not only adds a subtle tanginess but also intensifies the refreshing lemon flavor in Nando's Lemon and Herb Sauce. This synergy between the vinegar and lemon creates a dynamic citrus profile that is both vibrant and zesty, enhancing the overall taste experience of the sauce. As a result, each bite becomes a burst of lemony freshness, making the sauce even more irresistible whether used as a glaze, marinade, or dip.
